Changes In The Portland Meditation Hall

This summer Swamiji decided to rearrange the statues and paintings in the meditation hall in preparation for the arrival of the Rudi statue, due sometime in the next few months. The change has had a powerful effect. Here’s a recap of what has happened:

The statue of Nityananda was moved to the front of the hall, to the right of the teaching stand. The Rudi statue will be situated on the left of the teaching stand. For the moment, Rudi’s picture hangs there over the platform where the statue will go. Each platform is flanked by large ceramic urns with orchids in them. The painting of Swami Muktananda is to the right of Nityananda, and the painting of Sai Baba of Shirdi is to the left of Rudi's painting. The color of the window covering behind the teaching stand has been changed from gold to indigo blue.

The Tibetan altar was moved to the left wall, where the Nityananda statue used to be. The large thangka of Padmasambhava is centered behind it, and the thangkas of Padampa Sangye and Machig Labdron are on either side of it. The large Buddha thangkas were moved from the back of the room and now hang on the outer edges of the wall where the altar is. Lama Wangdu Rinpoche’s picture and the chair he uses when he practices are also on that side of the room.

Finally, the thangka of Siddhi Lakshmi has been placed on the wall in the back of the room, on the left, and a new thangka of Smashan Shiva (Shiva as a cremation ground dweller) painted by the same artist is on the back in the right.
