Lama Karma Namgyel to Perform Cham
The Venerable Lama Karma Namgyel will be performing Tibetan sacred dances (cham) at Nityananda Institute on Sunday, January 28 at 6:00 p.m. This will be Lama Karma's first program at the Institute.
Lama Karma was born in Bhutan and joined a Drukpa Kagyu monastery when he was 7. He was trained in ritual practices, including dance, instruments and chanting, and became the ritual master for his monastery. In 1987, he went to Nepal to study Dzogchen teachings with Khenpo Rigdzin Dorje, a highly regarded Nyingma teacher. He came to the United States in 1996 and now lives in Boulder, Colorado, where he established the Drukpa Mila Center.
Lama Karma will perform two dances, a Guru Rinpoche dance and a 16 dakini dance. The performance will be preceded by short talk on the dances and followed by a brief question and answer session.
More information about Lama Karma and Tibetan sacred dance is available at the Drukpa Mila Center website.
